On Thursday, Aug. 15, Beaumont Health and WellStreet opened their 13th and largest urgent care facility at Woodward Corners, a development that includes retail, restaurants and a Meijer at 13 Mile Road and Woodward Avenue.

The 5,400-square-foot urgent care center, within walking distance from the hospital behind it, will reduce time and money spent at the hospital’s emergency room by offering care for minor injuries and illnesses.

Since Beaumont Health and WellStreet announced their partnership one year ago, they have opened 13 urgent care centers in the metro Detroit area, and their goal is to open 30 total. In the fall, another urgent care center in Royal Oak is scheduled to open in the former Superior Fish location, near 11 Mile and Main Street.

“Our goal is to provide high-quality, convenient, accessible and lower-cost options close to where people live and work in a place that is open 365 days a year to treat minor injuries and illnesses,” said Carolyn Wilson, chief operating officer for Beaumont Health.

Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, has the ninth-busiest emergency room in the country, she said, seeing up to 400 people a day and approximately 60,000 a year.
