Flu Season Is Here. Fortunately, So Is WellStreet.

It usually happens when the temperatures start to drop. For almost no apparent reason, people suddenly start to develop coughs, aches, fever, chills, sneezing, sore throats and tiredness; any one of these symptoms can tip you off that you’ve got a case of the flu.

The season for influenza (also known as the flu) typically lasts from Fall through early Spring. In any given year, up to 20 percent of the population is affected by flu. Because influenza is a virus, it is highly contagious. Flu viruses can spread quickly and affect different people in different ways. Vomiting, bluish skin color, fever with rash and trouble breathing are some of the warning signs to watch for, especially in children.

Fortunately, you can take action to reduce your chances of getting the flu. A great way to prevent flu is by visiting your local WellStreet Urgent Care center early in the season for a flu shot. There are some common misconceptions about flu shots, and contrary to what some people think, you cannot get the flu from a seasonal flu vaccine.

The board-certified physicians and trained medical staff at WellStreet can administer your flu shot conveniently, without an appointment. Just walk in. We can also provide a nasal spray version of the vaccine, although it isn’t as potent as the vaccine injection. Either way, you will be vaccinated against the current season’s strain of influenza and greatly improve your chances of not getting bogged down with the flu.

Additionally, we advise you to take preventive steps to avoid catching or spreading the flu, such as washing your hands often, covering your face when you cough or sneeze, and getting plenty of rest and fluids to keep your immune system active, strong and healthy.

Of course, if you do come down with the flu, WellStreet Urgent Care is available to treat your symptoms. We are right in the neighborhood, open 7 days-a-week with extended hours, and accept all major credit cards and most insurance plans. Stop in or email us for more information at [email protected]. At WellStreet, we’ll keep you well on your way!
